Beyond the Bite

Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance that can leave behind a painful, itchy, bite. They can also pose potentially dangerous diseases. Our professional technicians use an intensive mosquito treatment to prevent and control the mosquitoes on your property all season long!

You may assume that the mosquito’s tiny stature isn’t capable of causing harm beyond the bite, when in fact nothing could be farther from the truth. Though there are many mosquito-borne illnesses present in the West Chester, Newtown Square, and Newtown Square region, the most prevalent here in PA is West Nile…

  • West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne illness that can cause fever, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), or meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord). WNV is most commonly spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.
  • Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after the mosquito bite. Approximately 1 in 5 people infected will develop a fever and possibly headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. Most people with these symptoms recover completely, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months.

  • Less than 1% of people infected with WNV will develop serious neurologic illness such as encephalitis or meningitis (inflammation of the brain or surrounding tissues). Recovery from severe illness may take weeks or months. Some of the neurologic effects may be permanent. Only about 10% of people who develop neurologic infection due to WNV will die. The elderly, very young and those with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems are at a greater risk for serious illness.
